Electrical Engineer

A licensed Electrical Engineer is sought for a position based in downtown Chicago. The ideal candidate will be self-motivated and able to work independently, with a background in facilities design for public sector clients such as municipalities, transit authorities, and departments of transportation. Some projects will require direct client interaction and collaboration with other in-house engineering staff.

The company provides a range of electrical engineering services, including facilities design, roadway lighting, fiber optic communications, and Intelligent Transportation Systems. The company serves multiple industries, including transportation, rail, aviation, and municipal projects. The ideal candidate should have experience with some of the listed areas and demonstrate initiative to learn others.

Responsibilities:

  • Perform detailed electrical design of lighting, power distribution, alarms, communications, voltage drop calculations, generator and transformer sizing, substation and ground grid design and analysis.
  • Conduct roadway lighting and photometric calculations using AGI 32 software.
  • Design Intelligent Transportation Systems, including fiber optic cable sizing, CCTV, and vehicle detection device selection.
  • Utilize SKM Power Tools.
  • Attend site visits and client meetings.
  • Compile milestone deliverables (calculations, drawings, specifications, etc.) to meet client standards.
  • Organize both physical and digital project documentation.
  • Prepare new and modify existing drawings in AutoCAD, REVIT, or Microstation.
  • Coordinate with project team members, including engineers, technicians, and management.
  • Participate in the QA/QC process to maintain the quality of work completed by staff.
  • Prioritize tasks and balance workload according to project needs.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • B.S. in Electrical Engineering, M.S. preferred.
  • A minimum of ten (10) years of experience.
  • Illinois PE license required.
  • Experience with CADD solutions including Microstation, AutoCAD, and Revit.
  • Strong knowledge of electrical trade practices, standards, and building codes.
  • Excellent communication, teamwork, and leadership skills.
  • Proficient in MS Office Suite.
