Electrical Engineer II

Job Opportunity: Electrical Engineer (7+ Years Experience) – Renewable Energy

We are currently recruiting for an exciting opportunity with a rapidly growing, private equity-backed renewable energy firm that specializes in the development, construction, ownership, and operation of distributed generation (DG) solar projects and energy storage solutions across the United States.

The firm, based in Atlanta, Georgia, has successfully built solar projects across the eastern U.S. and has a robust pipeline of future projects in more than 20 states. As they continue to grow, they are looking to add an experienced Electrical Engineer to their team to support the development of renewable energy solutions. This position offers a great opportunity for an engineer looking to further their career and potentially step into a senior engineering role in the future.

The ideal candidate would reside in Atlanta, Georgia, however, this role is open to remote candidates on the east coast that would be willing to travel quarterly.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Interconnection Application Management:

  • Lead the preparation and coordination of interconnection applications for DG solar projects, working closely with the Interconnection Manager.

  • Oversee third-party engineers and associate-level engineers to ensure timely and high-quality completion of interconnection components.

  • Assist the Interconnection Manager with technical reviews of system impact studies, interconnection agreements, and power purchase agreements.

  • Coordinate with utilities, municipalities, system off-takers, and ISOs to ensure project compliance with all interconnection requirements.

  • Electrical Engineering & Design Support:

  • Review single-line diagrams (SLDs), three-line diagrams (3LDs), site layouts, and interconnection designs for solar projects.

  • Conduct PVsyst modeling and energy production estimates.

  • Prepare technical specifications for electrical equipment, including inverters, transformers, and switchgear.

  • Ensure compliance with industry standards, including NEC, IEEE, UL, and other applicable electrical codes.

  • Support the review of new equipment specifications to ensure system compatibility.

  • Project Development & Technical Due Diligence:

  • Assist with feasibility studies, optimization exercises, and early-stage project designs.

  • Collaborate with project developers to optimize interconnection efficiency, site location, and overall strategy.

  • Participate in evaluating technical risks and performing due diligence on potential projects and acquisitions.

  • Team Leadership & Collaboration:

  • Provide technical mentorship and guidance to the associate-level electrical engineer.

  • Work closely with cross-functional teams, including Project Development, Project Execution, and Project Finance.

  • Collaborate with third-party consultants and utility engineers to resolve technical challenges.

    Required Qualifications:

    • 7+ years of experience in electrical engineering, particularly in power systems, renewable energy, or utility interconnection.

    • Proficiency in AutoCAD, PVsyst, or similar solar design software.

    • Strong understanding of NEC, IEEE 1547, UL 1741, NFPA 70, and related electrical codes.

    • Experience working with utilities and ISOs on interconnection application processes.

    • Excellent project management, problem-solving, and communication skills.

    Preferred Qualifications:

    • Experience with distributed generation (DG) interconnection processes, including net metering, wholesale DG, community solar, and behind-the-meter or front-of-meter projects.

    • At least 1 year of solar electrical design experience, including PVsyst modeling, SLD development, and equipment specification for solar projects.

    • Professional Engineer (PE) license, Engineer-In-Training (EIT), or currently pursuing licensure.

    • Experience with energy storage system integration and power flow studies.

    • Familiarity with commissioning testing, IEEE 1547, and NETA requirements.

    • NABCEP PV Associate or PV Design Specialist certification.

Compensation and Benefits: The firm offers a competitive salary and benefits package, including equity-based compensation and performance bonuses.
